Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about how the site works and where its information comes from.

Clocks and time zones

How accurate are the clocks?

Each clock combines your device's clock with the official IANA time zone database built into your browser, which includes daylight saving time rules. If a clock looks wrong, check your computer or phone's date, time and time zone settings.

Why does a country show its capital's time?

When you add a whole country, we use its capital's time zone. For countries with several time zones (such as the United States or Australia), you can choose another city, either when adding the clock or later with "Change city" in edit mode.

Where are my dashboards saved?

In your browser's local storage on this device. They aren't synced to other devices or browsers, and clearing site data or using a private window removes them.

Why can't I add more than 8 clocks?

Eight keeps the dashboard readable on every screen size. Remove a clock to add another.

Currency

Where do exchange rates come from?

From the European Central Bank's daily reference rates, delivered by the open-source Frankfurter service. They are published once per working day, around 16:00 Central European Time.

Why is my bank's rate different?

Reference rates are mid-market indicators. Banks, card issuers and exchange offices add a margin and sometimes fees, so the rate you are charged will differ.

Why isn't my currency listed?

The European Central Bank publishes rates for about 30 major currencies. Others are not available from this source.

Airports and flights

Can I see live flight status?

No. We don't have a live flight data feed and never show invented statuses. Use the airport's official website (linked on each airport) or your airline.

How is flight duration estimated?

From the great-circle distance between the two airports and a typical cruising speed, plus an allowance for taxi, climb and descent. Real schedules vary with winds, routing and aircraft. See the flight estimator.

Entry requirements and travel

Does this site tell me if I need a visa?

It helps you research: it lists what to check and links to official government sources. Only the destination's authorities can confirm your requirements, and approval to travel never guarantees entry.

Where does the travel advice come from?

We link to official government travel advice services, such as those of the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia. We don't write our own safety ratings.
